- Release of newest book, March 2006: Managing Sustainable Tourism: A
Legacy for the Future, The Haworth Press, Inc.
- January 2006: David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, began advising the U.S. Virgin
Islands on approaches to organizing, developing, and marketing the "St. Croix
- Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve".
- David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, has commenced drafting a new book, Tourism Policy and Planning:
Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.
- November 2005: David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, along with colleagues
at East Carolina University, began development to offer a Master's Degree in
Tourism Management.
- September 2005: David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, completed research and report
under the auspices of a North Carolina SeaGrant award, Sustainable Tourism
as an Economic Development Tool along the Waterways and Coastline of Eastern
North Carolina.
- August 2005: Led efforts to reach the establishment of the Institute for
Tourism at East Carolina University. David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, is named
Director for the Institute for Tourism.
- David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, on June 30, 2005, completed the report title:
Tourism Industry Examination and Analysis, "Prairie Discovery and Visitors
Center, Manhattan Kansas".
- March 31, 2005: David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, completed
research and findings were reported in a strategic overview prepared for the
State of Kansas.
- 2004: David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, began serving as a member of the 11 state Southeast Tourism Society Tourism Policy Council.
This Council is designed to provide leadership in the public and private sectors of tourism and to advocate sustainable
tourism precepts.
- David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, completed the report titled: The Greater
Kansas City Area as an International Tourism Destination under a grant
from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
- David L. Edgell, Sr., PhD, is a charter member of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism. The Academy, global
in scope, brings together the major academic communities worldwide to discuss important tourism issues; fosters the sharing
of research; and provides members with an important exchange of ideas.
